Emily Irish

I take classes at WCC during the summer instead of at Michigan mainly because of the price difference. … It just makes sense. WCC also offers a lot more flexibility with classes, which helps because I work full-time and volunteer over the summer. It’s also nice that there are smaller classes so I can get to know the instructor more easily.

Attend class and complete assignments:

  • Check your syllabus for meeting times, assignments, and testing dates

Off-campus sites may charge a fee for test proctoring services.

In-Person Exams Are Required for Some Online Classes

Not all, but some WCC online courses require up to three in-person exams such as midterms or finals.

WCC and instructors are here to help make this convenient for you:

  • Take for exams for free at WCC's Testing Center
  • If you are not near campus, you may take your exams at a National College Testing Association (NCTA) certified testing center. (You must make arrangements with your instructor in advance.)
  • Make sure to ask an academic advisor at your home institution if they have specific in-person testing requirements for accepting transfer credits.

These NCTA testing centers are located throughout the United States and around the world, allowing students to complete their exams close to where they live. This flexible testing option allows many visiting students to take WCC classes entirely online while living anywhere in the world. Off-campus testing centers may charge a small proctoring fee per test.

In many cases, credits earned at WCC transfer to colleges and universities across Michigan and the United States. However, transfer policies vary by institution, program and major, so it’s important to confirm how a course will transfer before registering.

Each college or university determines how transfer credits apply to its degree requirements. For this reason, WCC recommends that visiting or guest students speak with an academic advisor at their home institution to confirm that the WCC course will count toward their degree program.

Many WCC courses are also part of the Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA), which helps students transfer general education credits between Michigan community colleges and universities.

If you attend a Michigan college or university, you can also use the Michigan Transfer Network to check how courses may transfer between institutions. The Michigan Transfer Network allows students to search course equivalencies and see how credits from one college may transfer to another participating institution.

This online tool makes it easier to plan your classes and choose courses that align with your degree requirements.
